NPT PIPE FITTING
OVERVIEW OF NPT PIPE FITITNGS: LEARN THE BASICS
National Pipe Thread (NPT) pipe fittings just like other
American standards are designed by Americans and are in primarily use in
American installations. The reason for creating these specified standards is to
provide a similarity among all installations and to facilitate the plumbing and
maintenance operation.
In NPT pipe fittings, the thread distance is measured in
inches fraction and is in range from 1/8 to 2 inches range. These different
ranges determine the different sealing effect. Large distances are used for
waste management and in case of water systems. For high compress fluids
application like that of gases and air, we use smaller thread distance.
Thread angle is set at 60 degree in industry, this provides
the result that all pipes, valves and other installations are available at
similar angles in installations.
Different tapering and threading patterns are
also available in parallel. In case of tapering patterns they can come in
circular shape either inside the pipes or even outside as per the usage of
user.
