ASTM PIPE FITTINGS:
Standards for piping, tubing and fittings:

American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) is an international society which provides rules for standardization of pipe fittings. There are different volumes of these standards; Volume 1.01 of ASTM specifies different pipes quality, flanges details and material of steels to be used for piping, tubing and fittings.

Since steel is used in thermal power plants, where these pipes transfer extremely superheated steam, hot water through them i.e. in boiler tubes, turbine and other places .Similarly in refineries, where Oil is transferred to different areas of refinery. This volume gives the details that in these areas how fittings should be done, what type of piping material is to be used from normal to extremely high temperature, so that any chance of fire is eliminated completely.

 

This volume also includes a list of application areas where these standards are applied. Another big advantage of following these standards is that there is assurance of these standards because they are practically verified.
